TLXOS 5.0.3
Solution
TLXOS 5.0.3 LTS
Please note
: this release does not support the Raspberry Pi 5 (if you have a Pi 5, please use the progressive release, i.e. 5.2.0 or later).
Bugs fixed
the resolution list shown in TMS or Tlxconfig might contain invalid resolutions, particularly on systems with two or more display outputs
TLXOS' attempt to make use of additional GPUs using RANDR 1.4 aggregation will never succeed
black screen when playing videos on display outputs other than the one with coordinate (0,0) in Digital Signage (both new and legacy) and Media Player modes (SFF and RePC only)
Digital Signage mode fails to display URLs containing shell metacharacters (in particular "
?
" and "
&
", which are commonly present in dynamic URLs)
in Local Desktop mode, the sidebar containing application launch icons is too narrow and horizontally truncates icons
broken icon for Media Player launcher in Local Desktop mode (RPi only, due to the change from SMPlayer to VLC)
scalable vector graphic (SVG) images will not be displayed in local GTK apps (e.g. Tlxconfig) due to missing
librsvg2-common
package
all TLXOS instances of the same edition use the same
/etc/machine-id
file, which should have been removed in order to force creation of a unique valueson first boot; amongst other things, this can result in bridge interfaces on different TLXOS devices using the same MAC address
incorrect ownership of
/var/lib/*/apt/*/partial
and
/etc/ssl/private
causes warnings during
apt
operations and prevents locally installed TMS from running unprivileged
Maintenance Mode fails to obtain an IP address when using WiFi
Maintenance Mode is unreliable (fails during update download) when upgrading via WiFi
Maintenance Mode ignores TLXOS DNS preferences (DNS server addresses and search path) if DHCP is available, which might result in inability to contact the TMS server (causes upgrade failure)
RDP mode fails to display the intended warning about use of the ALSA audio scheme for microphone redirection
Horizon Client will never use VDPAU hardware acceleration, resulting in poorer Horizon mode performance on PCs using AMD/ATI or nVidia GPUs (SFF and RePC only)
Horizon's "BLAST (no H.264)" submode fails to disable hardware decoding as intended (SFF and RePC only)
shadow_session runs with unnecessary superuser privilege (security risk)
TMS settings are ignored when using session shadowing (SFF and RePC only)
missing
libusb-0.1-4
package might result in RAS Client failure (SFF only)
Raspberry Pi 3A/3A+ models fail to boot properly due to memory exhaustion, due to inappropriate overallocation of CMA
New Features
support up to four display outputs (requires TMS >= 8.4.3 and tms_client >= 8.4.5, or Tlxconfig >= 8.4.5)
allow the device to be woken by means of a Wake-on-LAN (WoL) packet (RePC and SFF only, requires TMS >= 8.4.3 and tms_client >= 8.4.5 if using TMS to send the WoL packet); note that not all Ethernet chipsets and PC BIOSes support WoL
on the Raspberry Pi, TLXOS will now attempt to automatically configure various previously unsupported DSI touchscreens, and (to a limited extent only) USB display adapters
Software Upgrades
Citrix Workspace App 23.11 (chosen because it is the last release for 32-bit x86, and is also the last release on which the (software) JPEG renderer worked reliably)
Omnissa Workspace App 2503 (RPi only - we did this in order to give customers a TLXOS option that provides the latest client, since TLXOS 5.2.3 can't safely run any release later than 2212.1 due to use of a 64-bit kernel)
tms_client / Tlxconfig 8.4.5
5.15.179 kernel (or new build of 5.4.83 kernel in RPi IoT case) - in this build we have removed rfkill in order to work around problems with only partial support newer laptops (consequently, there is now no way to turn WiFi hardware off, sorry); support for various DSI touchscreens has also been added to the new RPi kernel (albeit fewer models than are supported by TLXOS >= 5.2.3's 6.6 kernel)
Other
the Horizon submode formerly known as "BLAST (no H.264)" no longer actually disables H.264, it disables hardware acceleration instead (by other means)
added
cec-utils
package for customer convenience (N.B. on RPi / RPi IoT,
cec-client
doesn't work when using FKMS, so this is only useful for USB CEC adapters)
removed
parted
,
rfkill
and
wireless-tools
packages (strictly speaking
net-tools
is no longer needed either, but I haven't yet learned to use
ss
instead of
netstat
, and would find its absence annoying!)
added
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nouveau.conf
to force Xorg to favor the
nouveau
driver over
modesetting
for compatible nVidia GPUs (RePC only - permits GPU aggregation to succeed where it otherwise might not)
removed
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-intel.conf
, as this no longer serves any useful purpose (RePC only)
added missing
rtl8723bs
WiFi firmware to Maintenance Mode image (e.g. for STCK1A32WFC Intel Compute Stick) (RePC only)
replaced ifplugd with netplug, a simpler and less problematic alternative
disabled
systemd-networkd
and related services, which has decreased the likelihood of boot-time hard lock-ups (particularly on RePC when running as a virtual machine)
added an option to the Syslinux boot menu to display the contents of
/boot/version.txt
added overlay for Compute Module 4 I/O board's real-time clock to
/boot/config.txt
(RPi/RPi64 only)
installed
gvfs-libs
and
lsb-release
packages just in case customer-installed apps need them (RPi IoT only, other editions already have these packages because Horizon Client requires them)
Known issues
PXE booted devices operating as diskless clients will get stuck indefinitely during shutdown or reboot, and will require power removal or reset; this is because all recent Linux kernels require network interfaces to be dereferenced (i.e. shut down cleanly) prior to reboot or poweroff, which is very difficult when booting Debian from an ATA-over-Ethernet device
